I know it’s summer and everyone is looking to stretch their legs and get outside in the sun… I ran into 5 Articles this week alone while reviewing my weekly Real Estate/Development Periodicals. Every article I read obviously boasts these super expensive outdoor spaces with crazy big grills, over the top furnishings and electronics you might use like once. If you were are planning to be laid to your final resting place in the $6,000.00 grill they recommended then I say go for it. But dollar for dollar a $6,000.00 grill does nothing special to the food you place on the grates. More than likely they are the same cooking grates you will find on a grill that costs a fraction.
Outdoor renovations can be super tempting to go overboard but they must be treated differently than interior finishes. The average lifespan of exterior items will be significantly shorter than an indoor item. More than likely in your head you are justifying the outdoor upgrades by return on investment and not return on enjoyment. But in for outdoors it should be enjoyment rather than return. Don’t cut corners on hardscpaing, built ins and items that stand up to the elements. While a exterior sub zero fridge sounds nice do your self a favor and but the Hotpoint. Even if you replace the Hotpoint three times due to the elements you will still end up ahead over a sub zero.
Do Spend Top Dollar On-
Pavers – Retaining Walls – Mature Trees – Stone Built Ins – Long Term Landscaping/Plantings – Exterior Lighting – Etc…
Do Not Spend Top Dollar On-
Grills – Fridges – Beer Fridges – Warming Drawers – Televisions – Exterior Speakers – Furniture – Etc…
Don’t fall into the trap… Be wise when it comes to the outdoor spaces don’t get beat by the elements!
